You don’t get to choose your skin type, for example. Oily, dry, somewhere in between… sad to say, it’s out of your hands. But have you ever applied makeup on a hot summer’s day and minutes later felt like it was caked on or super oily?
It’s not a great feeling.
But – good news – it is something you can control!
And since we’re in for a long, hot, dry summer, here’s some simple tips to keep your makeup looking good all day long.
Summer makeup survival tips
It’s all in the name: primers ‘prime’ your skin for foundation. They smooth the skin, and help your makeup stay on longer. Plus, they’ve usually got an SPF factor, so they offer a bit of sun protection. (SUPER important in summer!)
Better still? Get a primer/moisturiser combo to help your skin fight humidity and keep it fresh.
When you think summer clothing, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? Light and breezy, right? Well, the same goes for makeup.
Summer is the season to avoid heavy makeup – use less, and go for light layers.
Want a bit more coverage? Use a concealer to cover up any blemishes.
Sun protection is vital – but that doesn’t mean you can’t have sun-kissed skin!
Grab your bronzer, and apply it with light strokes along the high planes of your face (think nose, cheeks, chin, and forehead). It’ll give you a bit of definition, and a gorgeous glow!
Swimming and sweating. Two things that go hand-in-hand with hot weather.
And both can lead to panda eyes… so it pays to have a waterproof mascara and eyeliner up your sleeve!
Waterproof mascaras are built to last longer, and they won’t smudge or run during the day.
Here’s a secret: regardless of your skin type, a setting powder will be your best friend in summer.
Setting powder absorbs excess oil and get rid of shine – without adding that heavy layer you’re trying to avoid. It’ll be a breath of fresh air (quite literally) for your skin!
